FYI - I just ran across this & felt compelled to re-post it. Not because it the it’s the neatest, most advanced, or the best e-bike proto-type I’ve ever seen. (although it ranks real high in all of those) No …… It’s because when a major transportation industry manufacturer outside of the bicycle industry makes this kind of effort I feel that prehaps this time around e-bikes are here to stay.  Your thoughts?

The recent Frankfurt Motor Show played host to some innovative new concept cars featuring eco-friendly powertrains and advanced in-vehicle communications. And among the advanced concepts on display was Ford’s first foray into the world of bicycling.

The E-Bike Concept demonstrates how Ford’s automotive design language can translate to a bicycle. The bike’s frame is made from aluminum and carbon fiber and weighs just 5.5 pounds. It also features a carbon fiber Giant SLR stem, Selle Italia SLR XC saddle, Mavic Elipse wheels, Shimano Alfine 11-speed internal gear hub and Shimano Rapidfire shifters.

But the E-Bike is far from a conventional bicycle, despite some pretty conventional hardware. It’s powered by a a front-wheel, hub-mounted motor that produces 350 watts and features a 9.3 amp-hour lithium-ion battery. Ford says the E-Bike will cover 53 miles on a single charge and reach a top speed of 15.5 miles per hour. A handlebar-mounted display provides trip information and allows the rider to select from three support modes – Economy, Comfort and Sport.

“The E-Bike market is growing very, very rapidly, with some 30 million units sold globally last year,” said Axel Wilke, director, vehicle personalization, Ford Customer Service Division Europe. “We see E-Bikes as an important element of urban electric mobility. More and more people are using E‑Bikes for short distance commuting and they are becoming comfortable with the concept of electric mobility.”

Ford says E-Bike Concept could be an innovative solution for eco-friendly mobility, and we couldn’t agree more. It not only boasts a sleek design, but the E-Bike is also infused with cutting-edge technology that would make it an attractive mode of transportation in any urban setting.

Wilke added, “With its cutting edge design, cross-gender appeal, robust build quality and high performance drive package, we believe the Ford E-Bike Concept would be the perfect addition to the e‑mobility solutions we will offer.”

    No Business Blogging for Money!

Let me first apologize for writing a post that has nothing to do with bikes, cycling, alternate transportation or anything else you would normally read in a cycling blog. BUT, …. . I just wasted my entire morning dealing with garbage that honest, hardworking & fun-loving folks just shouldn’t have to deal with. That said the following post is actually an excerpt from an old article I wrote over 3 years ago when I first became involved with & then frustrated with the Internet. More often than not old articles discussing Internet issues becomes dated pretty quickly. This particular subject however has become more relevant than ever. Although it has nothing to do directly with cycling it has everything to do with the enjoyment (or lack of enjoyment) of the Internet. It has unfortunately become impossible to do any type of research or recreational reading on the Internet without digging through reams of hype, un-truths, out right lies, scams, Trojan horse software, etc. Please excuse my language but it pisses me off to the point that I just have to scream. The following post is me screaming. Here is the link to the original article at INTERNET INCOME.Scam free bike blog. Electric bicycles

This topic has been eating at me for a while now. It is one of those issues however that cannot be discussed without at least touching on several other issues. Consequently I kept putting it off. This issue should concern anybody that uses the Internet. The Internet has become increasingly polluted with unethical marketing practices and get rich schemes and scams of every flavor. The cost of gas is heading to $5.00 a gallon. The climate is changing, the oceans are rising, the weather is becoming increasingly severe, if we don’t reduce our carbon foot print as individuals and as a nation our future is in trouble, the economy has a long way to go before it recovers. This is just a small sample of the negative stuff I see, hear and read everyday.

Electrically powered bikes look and work much like a regular bicycles yet they provide powered assistance when the rider needs or wants it. They extend the range, increase the average speed, add to the fun, eliminate the anxiety experienced about getting back from a long ride out, it allows the rider to commute without getting all hot and sweaty. This too is a small sample of what I see, hear and read about the benefits of riding a P.A. (power assist) bicycle.

With this in mind why is it so difficult to find an electric bike or electric bike kit in the greater Harrisburg, PA area? Read the rest of this entry

RIDEKICK  ——–  What a great idea. This fits so well with so many things I’m doing at the moment. It’s a perfect solution for those of us who want to keep their regular bike available as a regular bike but add the extra capacity and conveyance of having an e-bike for commuting to work or for trips to the grocery/hardware store. This should motivate you to ride your bike even more often and for those of us who don’t drive it adds so many options.
It’s not often I see something that gets me excited enough to write about it & have it posted on my blog with-in the hour. Talk about having your cake and eating it too. Check out the following links:"bicycle trailer","green transportation", "alternative transportation",Bicycle

    Battery links & stuff

I was cleaning up my links & getting rid of all my duplicates & decided I’d share a few of them with you.  Primarily I wanted to share Battery Space.com. I believe they are getting better known these days but I found them about 3 or 4 years when I 1st decided I was going to start making money by building & selling LiFePO4 battery packs & chargers. (This is how I get side tracked)

    LiFePO4 26650 Battery: 38.4V

Anyway they’ve been around since 1995. Their products are designed , assembled  & quality controlled right here in the USA.

For a little over 10 years BatterySpace.com has specialized in all kinds of rechargeable batteries, battery chargers and battery test equipment. Read the rest of this entry
